Tourism and Arnhemland Barramundi Nature Lodge have
developed a successful working relationship of benefit
to both. The Lodge, a joint venture between Bawinanga
and Fishing Tropical Australia, caters for anglers
seeking a remote area barramundi and sports fishing
experience. It has enjoyed a very successful first
year having won two Brolga awards in 2005 as both the
overall winner and the winner in the category of Adventure
Tourism. Brolgas are awarded in recognition of tourism
excellence in the Northern Territory.
The lodge markets the
eco cultural tours developed by BAC Tourism. These are
conducted by the traditional owners and provide guests
with a genuine experience of seasonal subsistence hunting,
fishing and gathering, and exclusive viewing of ancestral
rock art. The tours have been developed to provide traditional
owners with a small amount of additional income from
the non intrusive and sustainable use of their land.
Eleven different tours have been run this financial year,
a steady increase on the previous year, the first full
year of operation. |
