THE
BARLMARRK SUPERMARKET (Formerly
the BAC Tucker Run)
expansion
funded by first business loan
The Tucker Run, the most profitable BAC enterprise,
has become a large retail facility in the space of
only six years. This expansion has been driven by customer
demand for more retail choices within Maningrida. The
original premises, a larIge unlined tin warehouse,
have become inadequate. A modern air conditioned supermarket
cum variety and electrical store where an extensive
range of stock can be well displayed is now required
to keep pace and abreast of customer expectations.
Consequently the Corporation
has borrowed $500,000 from the ANZ bank to fund a two
part building and refurbishment program. Stage 1, additional
retail space, is almost complete. The Tucker Run will
operate from this area while stage 2, relining and refitting
the original shop premises, takes place.
The bank loan, the first
for BAC, reflects the confidence the Corporation has
in the ability of this business to both repay the loan
and generate profits which can be reinvested in further
employment and business opportunities. Turnover continues
to increase, 2006 $4,940,101 (2005 $4,656,354) and $113,772
was paid in top ups (additional income above the CDEP
payment) to Aboriginal staff this financial year, a 12%
increase on the previous year.
