The Good Food Kitchen
(GFK) has been highly commended in the Healthy Nutrition
Project Category, Heart Foundation Kellogg Local Government
Awards 2005 and achieved a number of other successes.
The profit per quarter has averaged $23,000, an impressive
performance after only 18 months trading. This has been
achieved whilst remaining true to its healthy food charter.
The business has overcome some of the staffing issues
which originally beset it.
There is now a core
of four reliable CDEP employees, two of whom have completed
Certificate I in Commercial Cookery.
GFK has expanded its
markets while retaining its existing ones. It is increasingly
catering for meetings and conferences as well as continuing
to supply Meals on Wheels five days per week and hot
healthy food for BAC Fuel three nights per week.
The challenge now for
GFK is to create a more solid staff base. This is a labour
intensive business and further expansion relies on attracting,
training and retaining additional local staff.
