BAC
NURSERY
a small enterprise
sharing expertise, resources and work programs.
This small enterprise continues to be operated by
local Aboriginal woman Leila Nimbadja. The Nursery
propagates its own native plants from seeds and cuttings
taken from the bush as well as propagating vegetables,
herbs and flowers from commercially bought seed.
Its range of stock includes the fruit community members
like to grow - coconuts, limes, mangoes, passionfruit
vines and bananas.
The nursery supplies
Ye' Ya CDEP with the plant stock to fulfil their Maningrida
landscaping contracts and makes one off sales to neighbouring
communities Ramingining and Milingimbi when they are
undertaking landscaping projects. It has a small ongoing
retail trade within Maningrida and the outstations. More
unique products such as locally harvested cycads and
Corphya seeds have a Darwin market. The nursery has a
very small staff and therefore often works collaboratively
with other BAC departments such as the Djelk Women Rangers
and the Ye' Ya CDEP, sharing expertise, resources and
work programs.
